The Upright Man: Depth & Direction in Mature Masculinity
A 10-week online men’s group for those ready to go deeper.
Co-facilitated by Joe Soma, MA, LPC, CHT, and Jon-Eric Steinbomer, MA, CHT
This group is for men who have already walked the path of inner work and are ready to embody a deeper kind of strength—not just in role or performance, but with an innate, unshakable trust in their own presence and being.
Here, we cultivate purpose, power, intimacy, and grounded masculinity from that source.
This offering is rooted in the principles of Hakomi—mindfulness, somatic awareness, and compassionate curiosity—and facilitated by two Hakomi practitioners and teachers. Together, we cultivate a high-trust, high-accountability space where men can show up authentically, receive support, and be challenged to step more fully into themselves. Grounded in honest expression and mutual support, the group invites real growth and the evolving work of showing up as men in today’s world.
Topics May Include:
Financial embodiment & conscious wealth
Boundaries, leadership & healthy expressions of power
Sexuality, intimacy & relational integrity
Fathering—of self, others, or children
Showing up for other men
Life transitions & purpose
Masculinity in today’s evolving world
Making peace with projection & the legacy of “bad men”
We’ll create space for authentic, meaningful conversation while holding to the values of maintaining an embodied, upright presence—uncovering what has always been whole within you, beneath fear or conditioning. The group is also shaped by those who show up, so bring what feels most alive for you.

Jon-Eric Steinbomer, MA, CHT
Jon-Eric is a Certified Hakomi Therapist (CHT) and Instructor (through the Hakomi Education Network), and a graduate of the 320-hour Hakomi Institute training. After completing his BS in Psychology, he spent more than 20 years as a user experience researcher in the tech industry, where he witnessed firsthand how the demands of corporate culture can lead to stress and burnout. This deepened his commitment to finding healthier ways of living and working. In 2015, he discovered Zen meditation and the Hakomi Method through his teacher and mentor, Flint Sparks—practices that reconnected him with his body and heart and set him on a new path.
For the past 15 years, Jon-Eric has also participated in and co-led men’s groups, an essential part of his own journey into mature masculinity and authentic presence. With an MA in Mindfulness-Based Transpersonal Counseling from Naropa University, he brings together his long-standing mindfulness practice, his research background, and training in somatic and experiential therapies to support clients and groups in softening old patterns, cultivating resilience, and reconnecting with purpose, intimacy, and grounded presence.
Joe Soma, MA, LPC, CHT
Joe is a Certified Hakomi Therapist (CHT) and Teacher (through the Hakomi Institute) with an MA in Transpersonal Counseling Psychology from Naropa University. He has worked for decades as a counselor, educator, and group facilitator. His career has included roles as Clinical Director of a residential adolescent treatment center, Senior Therapist at an addiction agency, and faculty at Naropa University, where he has taught in counseling and leadership programs since 2005.
With nearly 30 years of experience leading groups—from domestic violence and parenting to men’s groups, anxiety, and recovery—he brings deep skill in creating containers for healing and transformation. His professional life has been complemented by a varied personal path, including time in corporate high-tech, construction, the arts, and more—a “crooked path” that has given him insight into many walks of life.
At the heart of his work is an ongoing commitment to mature masculinity and the cultivation of spaces where men can explore purpose, intimacy, power, and vulnerability. Drawing from his Arab American upbringing, his experience navigating cultural expectations, and his lifelong journey toward integration, he brings authenticity, compassion, and curiosity to his work with individuals, couples, families, and groups.
