Nonverbal Awareness is the practice of noticing the subtle ways we communicate beyond words. Long before we learn to speak, we express ourselves through our posture, facial expressions, gestures, breathing, tone of voice, and even our silence. Likewise, we are constantly reading these signals in others, often without realizing it. Research suggests that much of emotional communication occurs nonverbally, making our capacity to recognize these patterns one of the most important foundations of meaningful relationship.

In Hakomi, nonverbal awareness is not about analyzing or interpreting another person’s behavior. It is about becoming more present to what is actually happening in the moment. By slowing down and observing with mindfulness, curiosity, and respect, we develop a deeper sensitivity to the subtle language of the body—both in ourselves and in those around us.

This workshop offers a practical, experiential introduction to recognizing nonverbal communication with greater clarity and compassion. Through mindful observation and partner exercises, you’ll begin to notice patterns of expression that often lie beneath words while becoming more aware of your own unconscious habits of communicating. As your capacity for attunement grows, conversations become richer, relationships become more authentic, and your ability to respond skillfully in both personal and professional settings naturally deepens.

Like all Hakomi training, this module emphasizes learning through direct experience. Through guided exercises, partner practice, and group exploration, you’ll develop a greater sensitivity to the ongoing conversation that is always happening beneath the surface—allowing you to connect with yourself and others in ways that are more present, accurate, and deeply human.

This three-day module includes study, experiential exercises, and partner practice. This training is offered online via Zoom.

Friday, Jan 8 | 10:00 AM–5:00 PM CT

Saturday, Jan 9 | 10:00 AM–5:00 PM CT

Sunday, Jan 10 | 12:30 PM–4:30 PM CT
