Therapy & Personal Growth at Hakomi Austin

A Hakomi-informed approach

As a mindfulness-based, body-centered approach to psychotherapy and self-discovery, Hakomi brings gentleness, curiosity, and close attention to present experience.

Rather than trying to force change or analyze experience from a distance, Hakomi invites us to slow down enough to notice what is happening in the body, emotions, and relationship. This creates opportunities to explore the beliefs, protective patterns, and unfinished experiences that may be shaping life in the present.

Our community includes psychotherapists, coaches, and other mindfulness-based and somatic practitioners who bring different backgrounds, areas of focus, and ways of working. For practitioners who provide psychotherapy, Hakomi may serve as a foundation or complement to other therapeutic approaches. Other practitioners bring Hakomi principles into coaching, spiritual exploration, pain reprocessing, and other forms of individual work.

Somatic Therapy

Somatic therapy recognizes that our histories, emotions, and protective patterns are often held not only in thought, but in the body. Through mindful attention to sensation, movement, breath, emotion, and relationship, clients can begin to understand what their nervous system may be communicating.

This work can be especially supportive for people who understand their patterns intellectually but have found them difficult to shift in daily life. The services, credentials, and scope of practice of each practitioner vary. We invite you to explore our practitioner profiles to find the person and approach that feel right for you.

Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP)

Ketamine-assisted psychotherapy can offer an opportunity to approach entrenched patterns, depression, anxiety, trauma, grief, or questions of meaning from a different perspective. It is not a shortcut or a stand-alone intervention; preparation, therapeutic support, and integration are essential parts of the work.

At Hakomi Austin, ketamine-assisted psychotherapy is grounded in Hakomi principles. Mindfulness, loving presence, and attention to the wisdom of the body help create a supportive setting for the experience itself and for integrating what emerges afterward.

Ketamine-assisted psychotherapy is offered by Jon-Eric Steinbomer, MA, LPC-Associate, CHT, in collaboration with qualified medical providers who are responsible for evaluation, prescribing, and medical oversight.

EMDR

EMDR is a structured therapy that can help people process distressing experiences and reduce the emotional charge of memories that continue to affect the present.

At Hakomi Austin, EMDR may be integrated with Hakomi’s mindful, relational, and body-centered approach, allowing the work to proceed with ongoing attention to safety, regulation, and each client’s experience throughout the process.

EMDR is available with Jon-Eric Steinbomer, MA, LPC-Associate, CHT.

Pain Reprocessing

Persistent pain can sometimes continue even after an injury has healed or when medical testing does not fully explain the intensity or persistence of symptoms. Pain reprocessing approaches work with the relationship between the brain, nervous system, and the experience of pain, helping people develop new ways of responding to sensations that the nervous system may have learned to interpret as threatening.

This work can incorporate mindfulness, somatic awareness, and other experiential practices to help people relate differently to pain and build a greater sense of safety in the body.

Pain reprocessing is offered by Mike Williams, CHP through his independent practice.

Integrative Mind-Body & Spiritual & Group Practices

Personal growth and healing can involve the body, mind, relationships, and spiritual life. Integrative mind-body practices use mindfulness, somatic awareness, movement, touch, and contemplative inquiry to help people slow down, listen more closely to their experience, and develop a deeper connection with themselves.

This work may incorporate Hakomi, therapeutic massage, private yoga, meditation, Reiki, and the Akashic Records according to each person’s interests and needs. These practices can support people exploring life transitions, relationships, physical and emotional well-being, spiritual practice, intuition, and greater self-trust.
